Our Stars at Night - Or Are They?


If you think it is the reality if we are on a clear cloudless night and look at the stars before, some of us always aware that the nearest star to earth is actually more than three thousand light years away from us. In essence, this means that even traveling at the speed of light, which is something like 186,000 miles per second, they take more than three years in real time for the light we see is that the stars in the sky at night for a trip through space and reach us here on Earth. I'm afraid it?

So, if this is the case, and I know it is safe, then think about this when we are on the night stars, as we know that they still exist? The real answer is that we do not know, unless we also happen that a whole series of astronomical very expensive electronic devices at hand. When the stars, the three thousand light years away exploded or had evaporated say two thousand years ago in real time, then it would still seem to us for about one thousand years or so. Perhaps even more mind-boggling?

So let's now take this short exercise to determine the amount of potentially ridiculous. If we could magically transport us from the earth to actually to take away that star and assuming that we could survive it, and breathe the atmosphere. What happens if at this point we have a gigantically huge telescope, and it was pointed directly at our planet so far away. Then we thought if we do this totally unrealistic telescope, we could actually all be very clear on the surface of the earth, and we might even people walking around there. The question is, would we see people, to walk in the days of Jesus, for example, or put another way, people who walk around three thousand years?

This, my friend is not only arrogant presumption on my part. It is a known scientific fact that many of the stars we see in our sky can not really, no more for one reason or another, but remember that most of them are much farther away than a mere three thousand years of light, so let them go. Now think of this. On this beautiful clear night, if you look outside and apart in our sky in awe and wonder how many of the countless millions of stars you can see, are actually still in real time, as you now for example? Who can really say, and who can imagine?

Our fragile and beautiful earth is like a mere grain of sand in the desert of stars and still, the majority of its inhabitants still assume that they are on the one and only planet, the life or life as we know it. It is said that there are more stars and planets in the universe than grains of sand on Earth, and so if this is the case, then why in relation to all that it would be logical to Earth is the only one that intelligent life? For many believers among us, ask yourself why God in his infinite wisdom and glory would have only a very small planet to life? If your answer to this question is yes it is, then you will equally agree that the Almighty God the same must then be the only God for us is so small, solar system, as in reality it is nothing compared with all which, moreover, out there in space, that the final borders of which they speak.

Of course God is the God of everything there, otherwise our beliefs suddenly shattered. That said, it is only reasonable to assume that when God saw how good a job he has, our earth, he would almost certainly go and at least a few other planets from these countless millions he made? Yes, exactly where all this leave us now? We still think and wonder and procrastinating and considering, but let's no real answer as to whether some of these stars or not, and for the matter, if God and the life just on this small sample. As always we are, because now our stars still twinkle in our sky, and they are great to see safely. We have more than enough alternatives to Boggle our mind in daily life, why let the additional burden of trying to figure this much. From my perspective, all this on a simple conversation with a friend and I thought I should my thoughts with you. No doubt many of you have your own thoughts on this and many other topics. To finalize, for those who can are in doubt you should always remember that the stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Texas. As such, it must actually exist, they must not?

Meteor Showers Return - The Lyrids


The autumn (or fall) Lyrid shower has historical resonances

It has been three months for Skywatcher in the southern hemisphere, with the height of the summer, reducing the display time. In the fall (autumn) approaches, we are closer to one of the oldest observed meteor showers on Earth - the Lyrid shower.

As this shower (like all meteor showers, a remnant of a comet - Comet Thatcher supposedly, in this case), by slightly more than the ecliptic, it is on the northern horizon up to us, with a climax, which sometime between the 19th April and 22, with some meteors, which are already in the 12th and some as late as next 3rd May.

This shower may not be attached to a single cometary rest, or the remnants of cometary have an odd orbit, about every 60 years, the Lyrids on a great show, the 6-10 meteors per hour up to a hundred or more per hour. Which Planets Are Visible From the Night Sky?


Five of the largest planet in our solar system are sufficiently bright enough to get by the night sky. These planets are from Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars the Red Planet, along with Saturn. Large Scale Structure of the Universe


In this short article I will comment briefly on the distribution of matter in the universe at different scales as well as some basics of modern cosmology.

Let me begin with the first smallest interesting cosmological perspective - the size of the solar system. This size is about 50 AU (Astronomical Units) ≈ 7.5 billion kilometers (km), if we decide to extend the boundary of the solar system to orbit Pluto. The gravitational field of the sun on the territory of the stars next to the scale of ≈ 2? 10 ^ 13 km = 20000 billion kilometers. This scale can also be used as the size of the solar system in a certain sense, even if the average density of matter (gas, dust, etc.) is extremely low about 100 billion kilometers away from the sun.

These extremely thin disk rotates differentially with the full period of around 200 million years - so, dinosaurs were wiped out from the face of the earth in recent galactic year. Big old galaxies (including the Milky Way) have usually a form of spiral. The reason is that the rotating disc gravitationally interacting particles is unstable, and the gravitational instability breaks up the plate in a spiral structure. The characteristic length scale of the box, which only our galaxy, but not other galaxies is 10000 light years.

Let us now increase the size of the box, 10-fold this time. We find that the Milky Way is located within a small group of galaxies concentrated (LGG). All neighboring galaxies in this field are much smaller than the Milky Way is also in its gravitational field (in other words, they are satellites of our galaxy in the same sense as the moon is the satellite of the Earth). The nearest galaxy to the Milky Way Large Magellanic Cloud (50 kiloparsecs, ie, 50000 parsecs ≈ 1.5? 10 ^ 18 km). Not surprisingly, it turns out that clusters of galaxies are in super-clusters, but it is surprising that the latter are the largest gravitationally- collapsed objects in Nature - in other words, there is no such thing like super super clusters of galaxies in the universe. The structure of super clusters and their interaction on the gravitational forces will be felt on a scale of about several hundred million light years, or hundreds of megaparsecs. Namely, Superclusters are protected by walls and filaments of galaxies, the creation of a foam structure of matter and gravitational potential called the Cosmic Web. Voids in this web are as large as 50 megaparsecs on.

understanding that the structure of the Cosmic Web is through the gravitational instability and this takes some time to develop, the conclusion on the fact that Superclusters are the largest objects that the age of the universe has been limited, and beyond its original state was very symmetrical. So, let's get back 10-times the size of the box. What we find is the map of the universe (about 2 million in the vicinity of galaxies) with characteristic scale around 3000 megaparsecs. This coincides with the size of the observable patch of the universe - that is, we are not able to probe the physics beyond this scale even with the best astronomical instruments that we currently have (such as Hubble Space Telescope). In this patch of 1 gigaparsec size, the universe is very smooth, homogeneous and isotropic. In a sense, that is the reason why qualitative discussion of the evolution of the universe is possible and cosmology can be considered legitimate daughter of astronomy. Of course, variations in the density of matter is homogeneous in the Universe (we live in such a fluctuation), but their relative amplitude is about 10 ^ -4 ~ 10 ^ -5 on a scale of order 1 gigapersec.

Although cosmologists have no data on the distribution of matter and gravitational potential on a scale larger than 1 gigaparsec, theory shows that the qualitative picture above does not change up to the magnitude of 13 billion light years (the cosmological horizon scale), although the relative amplitude of the fluctuations begin to grow slightly, while the scale is bigger and bigger. Standard paradigm of inflationary pressure also says that the relative amplitude of the fluctuations of the gravitational potential grows, until it is in the order of 1 to the so-called eternal inflation yardstick LvEI ~ 13 billion light years? e ^ n, where N is the number more than 60 and depends on the particular inflationary model. While the universe is homogeneous and isotropic at the scale below, it is no longer as homogeneous and isotropic at L> L ^ EI.
